The Board of Education approved a change to the current school year calendar during its regular board meeting on Aug. 25.
With the change, the last day of school will be moved to May 26 with graduations held the two days prior.
The change request was made because state tournaments for track and field, boys soccer, baseball, softball, lacrosse and tennis conflicted with graduations originally scheduled May 18 and 19. Left as is, the calendar would have impacted a large group of seniors.
The modified calendar also adds days off that were not originally scheduled to make up for the extension of the school year. Two days were added to the beginning of winter break. An extra day was added to fall break. To coincide with SUU’s fall break, that day was moved to Oct. 20. Additionally, a Friday off was added in April.
